How Text to ASCII Art Works

A text-to-ASCII generator takes your input string, looks up each character's glyph in a FIGlet font definition file, and stitches the multi-line glyphs side-by-side to produce the final banner. Different fonts render the same letter using different character patterns — Standard uses pipes and underscores for a clean look, while Banner uses solid hash blocks for maximum impact.

Asciify generates banners server-side using a streamlined FIGlet implementation, so the output is identical across browsers. Banners render in under 50 ms and respect your chosen output width — useful when you need the result to fit a fixed-width terminal, README, or email signature.

Once generated, layer on retro effects such as CRT scanlines, matrix rain, glitch shifting, or neon glow. Effects are CSS-based for live preview and are baked into the pixels when you export to PNG or GIF. For sharing, the "copy share link" button creates a self-contained URL that recreates the same banner anywhere.
