ASCII Fire Animation – Live Background

Bottom-up ASCII flames that flicker and fade toward the top of the screen. Fullscreen fire background, PNG and animated HTML download.

About the Fire effect

Fire builds flames from two waves: a sine across the screen and a cosine down it, both moving quickly over time. Their sum is multiplied by how close each cell is to the bottom of the screen, so intensity is highest at the base and dies away toward the top. The intensity picks a character from a twelve-step ramp ( .,:;ox%#*+@ ), so the base of the fire is a dense wall of symbols and the tips break up into sparse dots that flicker in and out. The flames lick upward in irregular tongues rather than a uniform bar, giving a convincing campfire at any screen size. Amber and red are the natural choices, but a green or cyan fire looks suitably supernatural. Use it as a cosy fireplace on a TV, a dramatic intro for a game stream, or crop the PNG for a burning banner.

Ideas for using Fire

  • Dramatic intro or 'hype' screen for a game stream

Frequently asked questions

Which color makes the most realistic fire?

Amber or red. The density ramp already supplies the brightness falloff, so a single warm color reads convincingly as flame.

Can I use the fire as a fireplace on my TV?

Yes. Download the animated HTML, open it in the TV's browser or cast the tab, and press F for fullscreen. It loops indefinitely offline.

How do I download the Fire ASCII background?

Use the toolbar at the bottom of the fullscreen view. PNG snapshot exports the current frame as a styled image (background, color, glow). Animated HTML exports a self-contained .html file that replays the animation in any browser. TXT exports just the current ASCII frame, and Copy ASCII puts it into your clipboard.

How do I get the Fire background as a phone wallpaper?

Tap "Wallpaper" in the toolbar and pick a preset: Phone 9:19.5 (1440×3120), iPhone Pro Max (1320×2868), Tablet, Desktop 4K, Ultrawide, Square, Story 9:16, Watch or Social card. The image is rendered at that exact resolution, not upscaled from your screen. "Keep top 25 % calm" dims the area behind the clock and widgets. On a phone, "Save to Photos" opens the share sheet so you can save it straight to your gallery, and "Download video (6 s)" records a short MP4/WebM loop for live-wallpaper apps, Reels or TikTok.

Can I embed the Fire background on my own site?

Yes. Click "Copy embed" in the toolbar to get an <iframe> snippet pointing at asciify.art. Width, color, speed and font size are encoded in the URL, so it stays exactly the way you configured it.

Can I customize color and speed?

Yes. Pick one of the preset colors, use the native color picker for any RGB value, adjust speed from 0.1× to 3×, and change font size from 6px to 24px. The PNG / HTML / embed export uses the current settings.
